Race, Technology, and Everyday Life

The article Tales of an Asiatic Geek Girl Slant from Paper to Pixels, written by Mimi Nguyen talks about her process as to how she writes and her growth in the industry of this writing world. She starts with her magazines and things of the sort, things that she likes to write about and then she goes on to start writing in pro- feminist movements. She starts getting comments and sexual comments from men that desire this fantasy of her, which is disgusting to think that people cannot read an article and appreciate the work without fantasying about the writer because of his or her race. She dealt with a lot of this, and she would come to purposefully not ever post an image of herself on the internet so that people take her literary work seriously. She talks about different groups as to why and how people were connected and what drove people to do the work.

How do we see the intentions of people’s work and why they seek and do their work?

My Selfies

The first selfie is what I would normally post on my story to show that I am out and about. It’s me on the regular day to day. This was me going to an event at school, in Marillac Terrace. I took it because the lighting was good and it was an opportune time for a Selfie. For most pictures I try to focus on the lighting so that I don’t look so bad with poor lighting. Looking back at this selfie I realize I don’t smile much in many of my pictures.

This selfie had a featured guest. He is my Siberian husky, I had to post him on the blog because I will no longer be living with him. My sister will be taking him as she is moving out with him. These are the regular pictures I share with my friends. I love my dog, and I love to show him and his two different colored eyes.

In this picture, I am representing my Fraternity. I was dressed for an event that I was going to see my brothers. We were on campus and doing some work together. We ended up having some family time after our event last semester. For certain events we dress up a little more fancy, and for this event it was a more relaxed event for us. It was just to get to know more people on campus.

Memory

Memory is important not only as a source of individual expression, but as a source of cultural expression as well. Cultural memory allows us to discern, express, and value differences based on gender, race, and social background.

This seems to be a forgotten idea, that it is more than just what one can remember for one’s personal memory. It is for a person to remember their culture and share their culture so that it does not get lost. The idea that all of the cultures that we have present in today’s life makes it easy to lost or mesh together the memories of our culture and let them get lost. How can we keep these cultural traditions alive other than by remembering and by practicing? With the accessibility of the internet, it can be very easy to mix up some traditions from different areas because the internet does not track that of specific cultures for example that of Holiday tradition that you grew up doing with your town in a foreign country . It may not exist in today’s online memory, known as the internet.

For example, I spent many of my holidays with my family in Costa Rica, seeing as how I partially grew up there, I experienced many different traditions that are lost already. Due to the introduction of the internet and the fact that many people see it as dangerous traditions to keep living. These cultural traditions have slowly begun to become lost in certain parts of the country, and there is no accessibility to them on the internet, they are only passed down through experience and the stories that we are told by our grandparents and parents.

Yes, I know that not everything can be kept, but my question is how do we keep alive these cultural traditions that can only live in our memory, how can we use the internet to keep them alive? How can story telling keep all these traditions alive and not lose its meaning?

Lifeview

I think we are here to procreate and pass on our lineage in order to keep it going. To develop a better world as a complete human race. I believe that the purpose of life is to have children to keep your blood going and to try to get your kids a better start in order for them to have a better chance to be successful. After that the goal should be to be in order to fulfill your desires, and to seek more knowledge and understanding. I believe that your family should be priority in life because although they can be toxic they are the only people that should help you no matter what. In regards to a country or the rest of the world I believe that they don’t play much in deciding what your purpose of life is or the way it should be. Depending on one’s moral compass and by the way they were raised that is how one would determine what is good or evil. I do believe in God, and I think that He does impact on somethings I do or don’t on the daily. I try to be a better person each day and do charitable acts as I go along throughout my day. Joy, Sorrow, Justice, Injustice, Love, Peace, and Hardships are all essential in the growth of every person.  It is necessary to feel the joy, love, peace and hardship, in order to know the difference between how one would feel.

Workview

The question why work, hasn’t ever been a question to me. It has always been a part of what I had to do, but as I have grown to see. The reason I work would be to reach my goal of owning a home, and to be able to provide for my family and my kids in the future. I have always seen work as a means to achieve my goal of living the way I want. In order to be able to travel, and spend on the things I like. I have been working since I was 14, as long as I can work I started. Work to me is just a series of tasks I have to do in order to achieve the things I want or need. Like my school which I have to pay, and it will allow me to own a home in the future. I believe that my work view doesn’t relate to many people because of the way I think about my job. I enjoy my job and I like the pay I receive. I think that the more danger required of you to endure, how much knowledge you need or how skilled you have to be should determine the pay. Money is the best way to compensate someone for their time in regards to how we are payed today. The more work experience I receive the more I enjoy work mostly because I get to do more solo work and it’s fun.

Road Map of Literature

Literature Map

This assignment was done today, it brought me back to the beginning of my writing. When I was looking back it made me smile as to how I started. It was far from how I feel about it now. I feel that when I was younger I looked at it as a chore. I only realized that I loved to read when I was reading one of the summer books required of me to read to go to my high school. Then, I would fall in love with writing poetry in my senior English class. Not so long after that I started writing a book on my father’s life. Going back through memory lane made me appreciate some of the things I did because I had to so that I could enjoy writing.
